Artist Q&A: Casey Shea As part of the Family Records Newsletter, we’ve started a monthly Q&A with a Family artist.  Last month, we asked you send your questions for Casey Shea.  You stepped up to the plate, and here are your answers! Question 3: What’s your favorite song off of your new album? Casey: Obviously all the songs are equally amazing, so it’s technically impossible to choose. However, from a recording standpoint, I think “It Is What It Is” or “Let It Slide” came out closest to what I had envisioned, so one of those. Question 4: Name your favorite movie and why.  Casey: The Big Lebowski.  If you’ve seen it, then you know why.  It’s simply the best movie ever.  If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and go watch it. You can thank me later. Question 5: How do you keep your hair looking so luscious? Casey: I think not washing it is the key! Lacrymosa

Keeping yesterday’s promise, today we brush up your knowledge of our very own Lacrymosa, who will be kicking of Pearl and the Beard’s “Prodigal Daughter” Extended Release Show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on 2/16 (North Highlands will also be playing).  Lacrymosa is the solo moniker of Ms. Caitlin Pasko, singer-songwriter and pianist extraordinaire.  Her 2010 debut LP, Selah, displays all the heart and talent of Regina Spektor and Kate Bush, with her own added twist (you can listen to “Everything Grows” above).  The Village Voice says: “Shadowy, piano-playing chanteuse Caitlin Pasko is Lacrymosa, a drifty-dreamy fog of theatrical belting, twisted art-folk croon, bold melodies, and spectral tenderness—a haunted house version of uneasy troubadours like Antony, Joanna Newsom, or Bat For Lashes.”

North Highlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to NYC-based band North Highlands, who will be opening for Pearl and the Beard at their “Prodigal Daughter” Single Release Show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on February 16th (Lacrymosa kicks off the evening).  The upbeat sextet have been making music together since their days at NYU.  They released their debut LP, Wild One, at the end of last year, and you can listen to the first single, “Benefits,” above.  Stereogum says “‘Benefits’…sounds like the work of a band in the throes of songwriting maturation: the verse’s lilt cedes to a dance-rock break, the guitars buried in the mix but arpeggiating around singer Brenda Melvi’s sweetly intoned “Take what you want”s in a way that might recall a gentler Metric.”

Pearl and the Beard

Pearl and the Beard will be headlining Music Hall of Williamsburg on February 16th! This show will be celebrating the release of their latest extended single and video from Killing the Darlings, “Prodigal Daughter.” North Highlands will be opening, and Lacrymosa will kick off the evening – neither are to be missed, so get there early!

The band also has single release shows coming up in Philly (2/23 at Kung Fu Necktie) and Washington, DC (2/24 at Rock N Roll Hotel)!

If you’re wondering what “extended single” means, here’s the deal: the single and video are for “Prodigal Daughter,” and the package will include three bonus tracks, a special brand new solo track by each of band member. We’re very excited to share these with you!
