It’s Cover Monday! Today we have the lovely Lily Mae and Alex Veltri performing Pearl and the Beard’s latest single, “Prodigal Daughter.” Great job, ladies! You really captured the spirit.
You can download Pearl and the Beard’s version (plus 3 never-before-released bonus tracks) right here.
If you want YOUR Family Records cover featured on our tumblr for Cover Monday, send videos/songs to emma[at]thefamilyrecords[dot]com, and feel free to include a brief explanation of why you picked your song.
We LOVE seeing and hearing covers of all of our artists - here we have a cover of Wakey!Wakey!’s “Away” from The War Sweater EP by amzyangel92. You can get the song here, and if you have a cover to share, send it to us at emma[at]thefamilyrecords[dot]com!
Pearl and the Beard recently joined forces with Brooklyn Based and Eating the Beats to record a song and create a recipe inspired by the recording. The song? A cover of Bon Iver’s “Re: Stacks.” The food? “Stacks” of spiced butternut squash pancakes with maple-goat cheese sauce and candied walnuts. Sounds delicious right? Hear the song and check out an interview with the band here - get the recipe, read about the process, and see a great photoset (photos by Dominick Mastrangelo) here!
PS - Don’t miss Pearl and the Beard at the Music Hall of Williamsburg next month!

Pearl and the Beard has joined forces with the folks at Secret Sound Shop for this cover video of Sarah Siskind’s “Lovin’s for Fools,” filmed at Prospect Park. Take a listen (and a watch), and if you absolutely MUST HAVE more Pearl and the Beard, come to the Family Records Holiday Extravaganza TOMORROW!! Oh and lets see how many notes we can get on this one. Maybe we can retumble it all the way to Ms. Siskind!
The Family Records Holiday Extravaganza!

A beautiful video, a beautiful post. Thank you, Jon!
Pearl and The Beard perform a cover of a cover at St Pancras Old Church in London. For some reason at 360, it distorts sound, so watch in 720 or 1080 and get the full gorgeous sounds of Pearl And The Beard’s beautiful and heart wrenching voices.

The original is by Sarah Siskind, who has also performed it with Bon Iver. This is a cover of that collaboration.
Some photos from that show are visible here: FLICKR SET ST PANCRAS and FLICKR SET BARFLY.
I had the pleasure of seeing my friends four times whilst they were here - Barfly with Jukebox The Ghost, St Pancras with Steven from Tellison, W.E. Love Sundays (secret gig) with Novas Basement and last night at The Lexington opening for Amy Levere. It always takes my breath away to hear them, it always makes me smile when friends are first introduced to their sound. It always humbles me when they are so kind and courteous, so warm and gentle and engaging with people. Not just the people who are important to me, or important to an industry, but people. Everyone is hugged, everyone is greeted with smiles. Everyone is loved.
I will miss them tremendously over the next few months. I cannot change that but I embrace the joy had now and cannot wait til they return or I see them next. Fly safe, Jocelyn, Emily and Jeremy.

Can’t wait to have this man back.

On our way from Boston to Ithaca yesterday, I decided to learn one of my favorite Tally Hall songs, Be Born. The biggest challenge here (aside from remembering the words and chords) was getting my iPhone to stay balanced between the dashboard and the window. Many takes were destroyed due to the phone falling over - which happened, as you can see, right after we finished this take!
Special thanks to Emma Pancoast, Merch Girl Extraordinaire, who took on driving and singing!
NOTE: No green screens were used in the making of this video.NOTE 2: Yes, we were wearing our seat belts!
NOTE 3: Sadly tonight is the final night of the tour for me, but we’re going out in style at Bowery Ballroom. Hope to see you there!

You will not believe what you hear. This is some of the finest sing-smithing I’ve ever heard.
Speak, Tally Hall, and our very own Casey Shea cover Because by The Beatles to close their set at Emo’s in Austin, TX.
Seriously can’t stop listening to this.

This is pretty darn cute! A collection of home videos set to Jenny’s cover of Wakey!Wakey!’s “Dance So Good”.
Jenny Owen Youngs did a great job covering this Wakey!Wakey! song! It puts me in a really relaxing state of mind.
