Artist Q&A: Lacrymosa
As part of the Family Records Newsletter, we’ve started a monthly Q&A with a Family artist. Last month, we asked you send your questions for Lacrymosa. You stepped up to the plate, and here are your answers!
Lacrymosa: Yes I can! I’m planning on releasing two new songs in the middle of May, and hopefully (fingers crossed) I will be releasing an art collaboration with it as well. I’m really excited about performing at Joe’s Pub again in April, and hopefully that will become a regular occurrence. I’m definitely going to release a lot of new material this year, we’re just slowly figuring out how we want to do it. And I hope to work with Mason Jar Music again as well.
Question 2: What’s your favorite song off of your album?
Lacrymosa: Whoa. My current favorite song from Selah is “If You Are Looking.” It’s really one of my favorite things I’ve ever written; It pretty much has four movements and it circles back around at the end. I could play the outro over and over all day forever! It’s such a vulnerable song, so performing it makes me feel brave and honest and open and pure. (ed. note: you can pick up Selah right here at the FR Store)
Question 3: If you could play a show with any artist, alive or dead, who would you pick and why?
Lacrymosa: WHOA. I’ve always wanted to sing with Sufjan. ALWAYS! I dream of singing back-up for him. I dream of the costumes and dance moves! It really is a personal goal of mine.
Question 4: Name your favorite movie and why.
Question 5: Outside of your own songs, what’s your favorite piece to play on the piano?
Lacrymosa: I actually never studied classical piano; I was taught a lot of pop songs when I took lessons. Lately I’ve been doing nothing but playing piano in my free time, and since my own songs get old after a while I’ve been learning a lot of Joanna Newsom, Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, and Radiohead songs. So I guess my favorite piece to play right now is Joanna Newsom’s “Go Long,” but mostly because it’s my favorite to sing. :)
This month’s Q&A features Matt Singer, who’s taking the stage at The Living Room this Friday, March 9th. Sign up for the newsletter here and email your questions for Matt to emma@thefamilyrecords.com.
